Charles McMoran Wilson, Lord Moran (1882-1977) became best known as Winston S. Churchill's physician. Moran travelled with Churchill everywhere he went during the war years and his published diaries became "a key primary source that has been extensively quoted by the official biographer [of Churchill], among others." However, Moran's reputation and accomplishments far exceeded his service to Churchill. "By the time he was associated with Churchill in 1940 he had already rebuilt his old medical school at St. Mary's Hospital, contributed to ideas on medical education, and was in demand to give lectures to the armed services on morale and courage. Lord Moran became the longest-serving President of the Royal College of Physicians of London in the last 100 years and in that post he profoundly influenced the development of the National Health Service."
