Wedgwood Sir Winston S. Churchill portrait medallion in pale blue and white jasper produced in 1974 for the Centenary of Churchill's birth, copy #446 still in the original Wedgwood case and accompanied by the Wedgwood limitation certificate.
Stoke-on-Trent, England: Wedgwood, 1974. Limited and Numbered Churchill Centenary Edition. This portrait medallion of Sir Winston Churchill was produced by Wedgwood in 1974 for the Centenary of Churchill's birth. The oval-shaped medallion portrait in pale blue and white jasper measures approximately 4.5 x 2.25 inches with a raised border of laurel leaves, the upper rear verso pierced and slotted for hanging. The verso is blind-stamped "WEDGWOOD MADE IN ENGLAND" and features the gilt-printed limitation statement "To commemorate the centenary of the birth of Sir WINSTON CHURCHILL 30th November 1874 Number 446 in a limited edition of 1000". Apart from a pencil notation on the verso of the medallion, condition is pristine. The medallion remains housed in the original dark blue vinyl-covered, hinged, blue velvet-lined Wedgwood case. Laid in is a double-sided Wedgwood vinyl wallet featuring on one side the original 1974 promotional brochure for the Churchill centenary offerings from Wedgwood and on the other side the original hand-numbered and signed Wedgwood limitation statement for copy #446. The original Wedgwood case is in sound condition, the white satin-lined underside of the lid showing some spotting. The Wedgwood wallet, brochure, and limitation statement are fine, unblemished.
