Frequently Asked Questions

What kinds of books do you buy?

Of course we specialize in material by and about Winston Churchill, but our interests and inventory extend far beyond Churchill. We are interested in both fiction and non-fiction. Noteworthy works in the following genres are of interest: autobiography, biography, history, novels, political & social sciences, philosophy, poetry, science fiction, and travel & exploration. Our interest also extends beyond books to significant correspondence, ephemera, manuscripts, and photographs. If you are wondering whether we’ll be interested in your item, just ask!

Is my book worth money?

We sure hope so! CLICK HERE to read our blog post which will help inform you about our assessment considerations.

How do you value a book?

We rely on our considerable experience as a professional rare bookseller and our informed knowledge of the market. This market can be confusing. Quite a lot of retail establishments are offering books for sale. Quite a smaller number of these are successful at actually selling them. What we are willing to pay you will be based upon our assessment of the realistic market value of your item, its prospects for achieving sale, the effort and time we expect to invest in making that sale, and our need to profit commensurate with these considerations.

How do we get started?

When you complete the Seller Form, you will be prompted to supply your own item valuation. We may accept your valuation outright, or make a counter-offer. If you prefer for us to make you an offer, we will. We are happy to candidly explain the reasoning and limitations behind any offer we make.

When can I expect a response?

Once you have submitted the Seller Form, including all requested images, we will respond within 5 working days - usually much faster.

How is payment handled?

We pay via check, wire transfer, or PayPal. Unless other arrangements are made, we pay promptly and in full when we receive the item. We guarantee good faith and timely payment in accordance with the Antiquarian Booksellers’ Association of America (ABAA) code of ethics.

How should I ship to you?

With care, please! Any damage that occurs during shipping can seriously depreciate the value of your item. We’re here to help; we can provide guidance regarding packing materials, packing methods, and shipping service providers.

Where are you located?

We are located in San Diego, California, U.S.A. If you’re not, don’t worry – we do business with people in dozens of countries on six continents.
